The Arctic Five Rectors Council decided on March 31, 2022 to go forward with the creation of the Arctic Five Journal. Umeå University has presented Arctic Five with an option to change the Journal of Northern Studies into an Arctic Five Journal.
A dedicated task force, led by Professor Peter Sköld from Umeå University, for the Arctic Five Journal was established in 2021. Rectors Council decided in addition to the adoption of the Journal of Northern Studies as the Arctic Five Journal to continue the work of the Journal Task Force with the Journal editorial board with a purpose to launch the journal and assess the expansion the journal focus and ambition level and fully operationalise the Arctic Five Journal as an Open Journal.
A separate page for the journal is created as the appointed Journal Task Force convenes and has agreed on the transition and launch of the Arctic Five Journal.
